We laid in bed, grasping hands as our eyes searched each other for comfort. It was the beginning of October when the days became shorter and the nights brought on a cool breeze. It had been a heartbreaking Summer but you became our glimmer of hope. Still mourning your grandfather’s death, we calculated how old we would be during all of your milestones. You were the size of an olive, yet we saw your whole future. A pain struck my heart when I realized there wouldn’t be enough time. I realized we’ll love you far after we’re gone.
